NYC Celebrates Resilience Repairs in the Rockaways

This October, New York City’s First Lady Chirlane McCray shared some exciting news: 501 hurricane-damaged homes in the Far Rockaways are now fully restored and ready for move-in. McCray, who serves as chair of the Mayor’s Fund, announced the completion of this important work outside the home of Mattie Eddy, a victim of Hurricane Sandy whose home was flooded during the storm.

Nelligan White completed architectural services for the restoration of Ms. Eddy’s home.

“When I look at it now, I never would believe this was the same place,” Eddy told New York Daily News. “Now I have a home I’m proud of.”

This work was performed as part of the Neighborhood Revitalization NYC program, substantially operated by Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) and sponsored by the Mayor’s Fund.

McCray spoke positively of the project and added that the Mayor’s Fund will continue to do its best to assist families affected by Sandy who are still waiting to return home.

Through LISC, Nelligan White assisted in the restoration of 21 homes. We provided initial site documentation, feasibility studies, code analysis, and full construction documents in addition to participating in meetings and community events.

We could not be happier to have assisted in the restoration and of these family homes devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
