IS 201 Brooklyn

IS 201 Brooklyn is a junior high school (grades 6 – 8) for 1532 students and 175 staff. It was constructed by William H. Gompert in 1924 along 12th Avenue (between 80th and 81st Streets) in the Dyker Heights area of Brooklyn.

A summary of our recommendations to address the entire building enclosure are: to replace roofs; replace parapets; replace existing face masonry with new, installed over a continuous water and air barrier narrow cavity drainage plane assembly; and reinstall all existing windows with new blocking and flashing. In the course of this work, masonry will be provided with appropriate expansion joints, the backup masonry will be reinforced with steel wind girts to comply with code requirements for lateral loads, the building’s structural steel frame will be protected against corrosion, and the water and air barrier will be effectively integrated with new flashing at masonry openings.
