Castle Hill Branch Library

Located at 947 Castle Hill Avenue, the Castle Hill Branch Library is located in a single story brick building constructed circa 1980. The library is a heavily used community branch in the Bronx.

While repairing the building enclosure we saw an opportunity to transform the nondescript building into a place that speaks to its civic function, and at the same time to greatly increase the building’s energy performance. The new facades will employ a terracotta rain-screen system incorporating mineral wool insulation, air and vapor barrier, and waterproofing membrane. We acquired current building energy records to serve as a baseline for judging the building’s future performance.
