Grand Army Plaza Redesign Competition

In this competition entry Grand Army Plaza was untangled by layering the modes of travel and a new transportation hub was created by submerging Flatbush Avenue.

Prospect Park expands into the spaces left above, and Brooklyn pedestrians can finally move from the north through the plaza and into the Park unimpeded. This design by Principal, Jake LaChapelle, along with colleague Babak Bryan was one of the winners of the 2008 Reinventing Grand Army Plaza design competition sponsored by the Design Trust for Public Space.
