In this competition entry, we redesigned Grand Army Plaza by untangling and layering modes of transit and creating a new transportation hub by submerging Flatbush Avenue.
Our design allows for the expansion of Prospect Park and ensures that Brooklyn pedestrians can finally move from the plaza and into the Park unimpeded. This design by Principal Jake LaChapelle and his colleague Babak Bryan was one of the winners of the 2008 Reinventing Grand Army Plaza design competition sponsored by the Design Trust for Public Space.
