The South Jamaica Library was the first New York City public building designed under the City’s high-performance building program. The structure features active daylighting controls, passive solar heating, and materials with a low environmental impact. The South Jamaica Branch Library was designed by The Stein Partnership and was constructed and completed by Stein White Architects. Stein White Architects received the Award for Excellence in Design from the Queensborough Chamber of Commerce in 1999 and the AIA Earth Day Green Building Top Ten Award in 2000. Nelligan White continues its involvement for ongoing renovations.
